Email from Manfred
4/28/98 - Manfred has recently been sending me some interesting emails. On May 16,
on live television, Manfred is going to keep two Ferrari 328s from
driving away!! He's going to do this by standing between the two cars
with outstretched arms, each hand holding onto a handle that is connected
by a rope to a Ferrari.
Now Manfred has one of the strongest grips in the world and although
he has been practicing this event for a year, he can't do it every
time. It's barely possible! I've calculated the maximum force (tension)
on the rope for Manfred. At its peak (just before the tires start
slipping), it is 5 times as much as in the
Hercules Hold!
The event will be aired on one of the biggest channels in Germany (ARD).
Too bad for us US fans. However, I'll let you know the results as soon
as I get them and Manfred promised to send pictures, so make sure to
check back here often.
Update: Manfred did it! He held on for
16 seconds. He said that he will send me some photos when they
are ready.
